Venture Patrol ASM using the Venture Strip Patch

Postby BuffaloSE-583 » Sat Dec 30, 2006 5:00 pm

How are ASM's in charge of guiding the Venture Patrol disquished from other ASM's? Can they wear the VENTURE strip patch above the right pocket like the scouts?

I did a internet search and found a (no longer available) ASM patch for the left sleeve that had VENTURE printed on it. It seemed to be available during (1989-1998)

If you are with a troop, you are an ASM. From an adult leader registration point of view, all ASMs are the same. I have never any distinguishing badges for the various roles the ASM fulfill.

How do you explain the Assistant Scoutmaster VENTURE patch? It seems at one time there was a designation.

But with that aside, is there anything anywhere that states that a Assistant Scoutmaster cannot wear the VENTURE strip above the right pocket (where the interpreter strip goes)

From what I discovered from my researching the subject. When a troop establishes a Venture Patrol, a single ASM is "assigned" to be in charge of it.

To add a little more information on the subject, because I realize that Venture Patrols are not used very much (at least in my area) and I am having a hard time finding information on the infrasturcture of the program WITHIN the troop. I have found this tidbit from national, with included weblink:

Assistant Scoutmasters

To fulfill his obligation to the troop, the Scoutmaster, with the assistance of the troop committee, recruits assistant Scoutmasters to help operate the troop. Each assistant Scoutmaster is assigned specific program duties and reports to the Scoutmaster. They also provide the required two-deep leadership standards set by the Boy Scouts of America (there must be at least two adults present at any Boy Scout activity). An assistant Scoutmaster may be 18 years old, but at least one in each troop should be 21 or older, so he or she can serve in the Scoutmaster's absence.

Types of assistant Scoutmasters include:

* Assistant Scoutmaster - New Scouts
* Assistant Scoutmaster - Venture
* Assistant Scoutmaster - Varsity

A troop should recruit as many assistant Scoutmasters as possible. It has been found that many successful troops have three or more.

Please, everyone reading this... I would like has much input as possible.

This patch hound has never seen a specific AsstSM patch, other than older styles indicating they were trained for the Position. Assigned to a Patrol yes, but perhaps any patch like that would be a private issue? I'll ask in the patch circles.

See Male Leader Uniform Inspection Sheet uner right pocket.

You can wear the Venture strip if you wish.
