Without being a little more specific about what it is that has changed and should be returned to, I can't comment on this in any intelligent manner.

scubascout,

Technically (and accurately) speaking... ANY official BSA uniform item, regardless of how old it is, or whether or not is any longer available through the current sales channels, may be worn by a registered Scout(er), -if- it is worn in the appropriate manner. IOW, once a BSA uniform item has been approved for wear, it remains approved, as ther are no provisions existing to remove it, as such.

Example: The over-the calf socks with the garters and tabs are still authorized for wear; but, I would recommend making it "look" appropriate... and you must wear the correct color tabs. IOW, you must still meet the proper uniforming requirements.

Another example: The red berets and the flight caps are still authorized for wear, even though they are no longer available through official BSA channels. Caveat: The uniform inspection sheet requires the entire unit to wear the "same" headgear, if they so choose to pick one in particular. (Refer to an inspection sheet for the fine print.)

Hmmm, RW...I'm one of those (several more over here too) that likes to use or display the older items. Can you explain or direct me to the correct color tabs for the garters?

The color of the tabs on the garters was the same as the backing color of the service stars for that program. Cub Scouts - Yellow, Boy Scouts - Green, and Explorers - Red.

I thought so, and thanks for the confirmation. I've worn mine since the sixties, and they're green, so I was using them right, haha. I'll display them at our District Dinner soon. Theme is the 100 years of Scouting.

When my boys were Webelo's I found a pair of BSA shoes, at a thrift store for $1.50. They were like penny loafers. I did some research on the manufacturer and they had been out of business since 1957.
These had never been worn. I called the museum in Irving and ask if they were interested. THEY WERE, especially when they found out that they still had the price tag on them.
We took them over and donated them and the boys toured the museum.
If you haven't been and ever get a chance to go it is a great trip.

I like the uniform pants that actually have real cargo pockets. Have found one pair for me and one for Kevin. He likes them better than any of the other pants. He hates the new ones with the zippers. They always hit right at his knee with the zipper.
