Whatever ones you find most interesting.

Take a quick look at the requirements and make your decision from there.

I recommend to our boys that they take at least one Eagle required if there is something offered that they have not yet earned. Otherwise, take something challenging and also something easy and fun.

When I was Sm I suggested the boys take E science and Wilderness Survival at camp the second year.

I always recommend that our boys do one Eagle for each three non Eagle. Some of the Eagle ones are long and can have lots of paperwork.
So far it has worked. Kevin in into his second year and has 4 Eagle and 8 non completed. He has 3 more Eagle ones that all he lacks is paperwork.

As SM I recomend second year campers take Environmental Science and Swimming, and then round out their day with other activities or merit badges that interest them.

this is my 3rd year in scouts, and second year at camp. last year i took first aid, shotgunning, rifle, fishing, sports, and leatherworking. first aid is pretty easy for most 1st or second year scouts, the next 2 though, i would reccommend only to those at least 13, or those who have background with shooting.

this year i am mostly working on eagle mb's. i am taking citizenship in world, hiking, wilderness survival, emergency prep., and one more i cant remember off hand.

i would say that if this scout has already made first class, then go ahead and work on just as many eagle as regular. if they are below 1st calss, i would only take 1 or 2 eagles.

I recommend our scouts take E Prep and Environmental Science at summer camp during their second or third year. Past that, take something to challenge yourself and then pick something that sounds like fun that might be easier.

It makes sense to take as many Eagle required badges at camp as you can figuring most guys go to camp for 3-4 years.

Is there anything offered at camp that you won't be able to take on your own and you want to have?

You should try to let the scout decide what badges they would like. When i first joined the current troop they would not let scouts do the shoooting badges. I changed all of this because the scouts proved they could do the badge

I agree. It is up to the Scout.

However, to assist them (second year or other year) I offer advise. I remind them that there are merit badges that have proper equipment and staff at summer camp that we might have a harder time arranging at other times. So, I ask them to look at that. I also suggest that they consider at least one Eagle required badge. In most cases about 4 merit badges makes a good number, but to consider what other things the Scout is planning to do. I always recommend picking one that looks like fun and to consider something that the Scout wants to investigate, too.

After that general advise, I will further assist individual Scouts by reviewing the content of specific merit badges and answering whatever questions they have.

I would just say whatever Merit Badges are of greatest interest to the scout. There aren't many Merit Badges out there that a 2nd year scout can't handle.
