Does your troop meet in the summer?

Yeah, that's us as well. We plan enough so that it's usually possible for everyone to qualify. You're right of course, that the typical meeting format isn't conducted.

The benefit in Summer activities is key to keeping the Pack together as a family, and making the Fall start up more effective. And that strong foundation for the Pack, is what results in some Boy Scouts. That's why this Scouter likes to keep "ol' veteran Scouters" thinking of how they must support each other.

Thanks for all that y'all do. I hate to think of a world where this program stopped. Wow, if BP could us still here, haha.

When my son was in Cubs, our pack ran a summer program of three events plus camp. They were all light-hearted and fun. A boy who participated in three of them (I think I'm remembering correctly) got the summer award. We didn't do real pack or den meetings.

It was actually a good recruiting tool. Boys would invite their friends to go with them to the movie or the ice cream social or whatever, and they seemed to sort of drift into the Pack during the summer, then signed up for full-time Cub Scouting in the fall.

You said it, the "R" word. A continued program, community visibility, and visitation are vital to grow the Movement. Well said MDEagle.

Our Troop continues to meet during the summer. The associated Cub Pack only has events (no meetings).

Looks like I'm the only poster stating that we do not have regular meetings during the summer school break. I must say I am surprised.
The reasons are many for our troop. We have quite a few families who have cottages within a few hours and are gone most of the summer. Almost all scouts and leaders do not want to continue during the summer other than a couple of activities (previously descriped in my original post).
The odd thing about this that most troops in our area don't meet throughout the summer? Huh - you've got me wondering.

Just one Scouter's perspective...I wouldn't be too concerned if that's the local practice. If the program is working, and an obvious reason to change is not indicated, keep riding the same horse.

This guy only chimed in since I've never run into that. But all my Youth and Scouter time has been in one Council. Kinda sorta like local menus I guess, haha.

ICanCanoeCanU yours is not the only troop that does not meet during the summer. Our troop ends our reqular meetings mid June, school ends the third week of June. We have one meeting in July, this is for the parents of the scouts going to summer camp and for scouts going to camp for the first time . To give them information about the camp and to let them know what camp life is like.

We start back the second week of Sept. This gives the scouts time to get back into the school mode.

My troop goes to everyother week. We also do not require the uniform shirts because we are active and do not wish to ruin them. We try to do some fun things, to get out, to give back. We havent done too much of that, but I hope to maybe change that. We always try to help out at our Charter's Chicken Dinner. They have a chicken dinner that happens every year, and we try to be there.

Pipestone: We do not meet as much due to most boys are busy in the summer time with sports and family activities. Also, a lot of boys want to be outside rather than at a meeting inside. We try to make out meetings fun and active during the summer time, just not as many.

ICCCU, you need to see my post earlier in the thread. We don't meet during the summer either.
