Having lived with teen drivers, I am going to suggest that even if you put off getting your driver's lisence for a while, you continue to get as much practice on the roads with you temps as possible.
I am not sure the 50 hours the state requires is really enough to be competent in a scary situation.
Also, depending on which insurance company you are with, you may get a discount for good grades or a defense driving course. Mid Ohio raceway has a very good car control clinic that teaches emergeny manuvers and skid control.
