New Jersey - Cape May to Batsto Villiage, via the Pine Barrens

Virginia - New River Trail

Historical Triangle - Williamsburg - Yorktown - Jamestown

Arizona - Globe - Ft. Apache - Maverick - Springerville - Show Low - Payson - Strawberry - Sedona - Flagstaff (a huge high adventure tour requiring peak physical fitness and above average riding skills, but can be broken into segments of interests). Note: Two very good youth hostels near the Amtrack station in Flagstaff, with the Greyhound a short distance away. For those who would like to add an additional segment, the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is north of Flag....

Trail Express has information on three bike trails. The Silver Comet (in Georgia), the Chief Ladiga (in Alabama), and the Virginia Creeper (in Virginia). The first two are connected for a total of 93 continuous miles. You may eventually be able to travel all the way from Atlanta to Birmingham on these two trails.

The Bike Ride Across Georgia is a once a year event that stretches from Columbus to Savannah. This is a distance of 354 miles with an optional 35, 62, or 100 mile circular ride mid-week (serves as a rest day for many). BTW It began today!

The Georgia State Bicycle Route Network is fairly extensive. Many of the metro Atlanta communities have extensive bike trail networks, especially Cobb County. Athens, Georgia, the home of the University of Georgia is also said to have good support for biking. In my county, Carrollton is building an 11 mile loop trail; construction just began within the past few months.

The Ohio Bicycle Federation publishes an annual events calendar of all the organized rides in the state. Google Ohio Bicycle Events and that should get you right there.

The National Bicycle Tour Directors Association's web site lists multi-day tours all over the country. www.nbtda.com

Columbus Outdoor Pursuits has maps available with bike friendly routes both in Central Ohio and Cross state rides. www.outdoor-pursuits.org

NOACA in northeast Ohio has bike maps with color coded ratings ifor all the roads in 5 Cleveland area counties. These are available in most area bikes shops.

The Ohio to Erie Trail under development in Ohio will eventually run from Cincinnati to Cleveland off-road. Much of the trail is already complete and most of it is paved or easily ridden with skinny-tired road bikes.

Several Ohio bike clubs have their club ride maps on their web sites. There are links to all the clubs that have provided them on the Ohio Bicycle Federation web site.

Adventure Cycling also has maps for all kinds of cross-country rides available on their site.

C&O Canal towpath. Our Troop has doen this several times - runs along the Potomac River. Reasonably smooth and level, but don't do what I did and ride a skinny-tired road bike if you want to have any more children (I don't).

the Pittsburgh to DC Trip .Great trip for a troop. Do it unsupported for a more scout like trip. Yough River trail into Maryland. Great alleghen passage to hancock then the CO canal TRail to DC ABout 7 days

No maps, but mostly we rode around the city ( its San Diego, so 30 miles is like nothing) and for the fifty miler we rode on high way inthe desert
