well, i guess its kinda like the propane you use on your outdoor stoves. its dangerous, you know it, i know it, so all ya gotta do is be a bit more careful.

wut does g2ss have to do with it? are they outlawing them now?

There are more cons than pros for MREs.

http://survivalacres.com/information/mres.html

Consitipation, weight/bulk and leftovers/trash are major problems.

Note the number of present/former military personnel who advise against them.

it is far better to burn it than take it home, throw it in the trash and have it end up in a land fill.

at least if u burn the plastic off of it, you can recycle the aluminum and do something good for the environment.

and, if i pack it out, im gonna take it home and burn the plastic off anyhow. really doenst matter, its gonna happen one time or another

I guess it really does not matter what I say you are going to burn it anyway. just be careful of the toxins that are put off.

Your Troop & SM goes along with the burning of plastic products in a campfire?

Whoo Boy! How impressive! What a way to model & teach the Outdoor Code & Leave No Trace Principles!

BTW - Just in case you get sick & wonder why - burning plastic releases poisonous fumes into the surrounding air.

there is nothing wrong with it. if you guys dont want to do it, dont. idc. the outdoor code doesnt say anything about not burning plastic. and as far as leave no trace, all the plastic will be GONE. problem solved.

back to my ortiinal pt, so does burning wood.

You are correct in that the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace does not explicity prohibit buring of plastic. However, depending upon where you live (camp) that are local and state regulations that do prohibit buring of plastic and garbage in general. In your postings on being an EMT you write about siding on the side of caution but burning plastic is not siding on the side of caution.
