Proper Way To Wear MB Sash and Display MB's?

What is the proper way (if any) for a scout to wear a Merit Badge sash - over the left or right shoulder? Also, can awards also be displayed on the sash, or is it only for Merit Badges?

From right shoulder to left hip. Merit badges on front other awards or patches on back. In my troop (not sure if its uniform policy) you must have atleast 3 merit badges before wearing your sash.

This policy is not correct or allowed by the BSA. As soon as the Scout earns the merit badge, he has the right to wear it on a sash or the sleeve(long-sleeve) of the Scout shirt.

We still make it 3(lets not argue its just something we do) Might not be allowed but it dosent harm them. If they did where a sash we wouldnt tell them they couldnt, we just encourage to wear it when you have 3 badges.

What's the purpose of this rule? The OP asked for the "proper"way to wear the sash and MBs. Waiting until you have 3 is not the proper way. If your troop has some kind of tradition, so be it, but it is not the proper way, as requested by the OP.

All I did was add in what my troop does. Gave him an idea of what a lot of troops I know do. Maybe he should check it. This topic should be locked by a moderator to be continued in the original spot under Uniforming.

Yes, this thread is redundant. Yes, this has already been discussed, in detail. Twice. Yes, someone might want to go to "how to wear the sash" and "Merit Badge Placement" to read all about it, before dropping another post in here.

Some thing you do or not, it's not the way it's supposed to be done. So it's our job to make sure people understand that rather then get wrong ideas. Not that any of us are perfect. I admit to wearing a hat that's 25 years old instead of the offical one. Of course techinacily it's still the offical hat of my troop from way back when. None of the kids have ever wanted to actully vote it out in favor of those ugly new ones.

Oh yes I fully understand. But I do know that alot of troops have their own way to wear it. They should check with their troop leaders first.

Also to just add. I do know that my troop is not following the correct insignia guide but as most know from other posts I have they seem to do alot that way. I do try to correct them but they set their heart to things and you cant pull them away without a fight.

Dont worry I have noticed that since in the Scouting world there are a lot of extremely dedicated people. We all have our seperate opinions none are wrong just the way we think the program should work. It seems that every now and then us extremely dedicated people lock horns on an issue and we feel so strongly about it that a firestorm occurs. Im not specifically speaking of this post, just in general. So heads up if you read some other topics here you will find some serious head locking. We all are decicated(thats why we are posting here) to this program and making it run correctly. So just bear with some of us, we like to debate and even sometimes argue. We all have good intentions here. And Welcome to the Board.

Just a thought, we did this in one unit. We got the uniform requirements book and photocopied and enlarge all aspects of the proper wear of the uniform including equipment patches and OA sash more. These lined images and labels were glued to a poster. It was taken to a place and laminated, then hung up at our meeting place. This one poster alone helped clear up many misunderstandings on how to wear the uniform and what was approved for wear and what was not proper.
