My son is doing his right now. He is building a foot bridge and making safety improvements to an existing dock. These are being done for a Community College on their nature trail.
When we priced out the project, it came in around $1,200. We have petitioned several lumber yards and big box home improvement stores for assistance. Each contact is helping with something, some more than others. Also local pizza shops have agreed to provide lunch on each day of the project (2 shops - 1 for each day).
He has also gotten a promise from 2 local companies to assist with a cash donation to cover shortfalls. (One of them is the company I work for. And that promise came at our company picnic when he was talking with the CEO (Who is an Eagle Scout) in the dugout during the softball game.
One thing I will say is that cover all bases. Some companies may help, other companies may not, but you will be suprised where and in waht form the support may come. Ask everyone you know if they or someone they know would be willing to help.
A word of caution, be prepared to respond with exactly what you need when the answer is yes.
Best Wishes in Your Quest,
Chief J
