NYLT

Just back from working our Council's NYLT course. WOW!

To those of you Scouts that meet the requirements and still have time to register in your Council -- GO! At least, consider it well. Discuss with your Scoutmaster (if he/she doesn't have info, they can get it -- and SHOULD). It is an EXCELLENT traning event. If you can't make it this year, work on next year.

For those of you who have been -- remember that you need to bring back the experience and use what you learned AND that you should be explaining the benefits to both adult and youth leaders. Your performance and enthusiasm is what justifies the reputation of the course and encourages others to attend. You worked for it (and the Staff worked to provide it -- believe me, they WORKED). Make it count now in your Units/Districts/Councils and it will work for you for your entire life.

Comments anyone?

I agree with what you said. My NYLT experience back in 2005 was a lot of fun and taught me a lot about leadership and how to better run a troop. Everything you learn there is important. If you're a scout and you're going to go, pay attention to every class even though some other scouts may be complaining about how many there are and "boring" they are. Every one of them has something you can learn and use.

Kevin will be going to the one in the fall that our Council puts on.
He is looking forward to it.

If you're talking about Brownsea training, then yes, I did that. Great week; I had a lot of fun. The people were cool and the programs were great. After that week I felt as if I had known all of the guys in my patrol for years we had become so close. I highly recommend anyone who has not done it to do it.

I think we might be talking about something else. National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is different from Brownsea. But anyway, I didn't know that they had a week long brownsea! When I did brownsea, it was at my 1st week long campout and we only did it about five days (if I remember correctly).
