I was just aboput to post the site when you beat me to it. I hear about scouts who hold off Eagle COHs for 2 years and I think that's too long, this guys finally having his Eagle COH nearly 70 yeasr after earning the Eagle award!

IIRC, if a Scout was drafted/volunteered for WWII, the age/time limit was removed for Eagle.

There was no age limit until 1953....is this story implying that he just had his EBOR?....because you are correct that he could've just had his BOR since his scouting career was stopped while he was in the service.

Again WRONG! You have 3 months after your 18th birthday for your EBOR (unless you could not do to physical injury, etc.....this would not be a case)

I did check into and you are right, I got my info from the Eagle Scout Project WB where it states:

3. It is imperative that all requirements for the Eagle Scout rank
except the board of review be completed prior to the candidate’s
18th birthday. When all requirements except the board of review
for the rank of Eagle, including the leadership service project,
have been completed, the enclosed Eagle Scout Rank Application
must be completed and sent to the council service center
promptly. (Youth members with disabilities should meet with
their unit leader regarding time extensions.)

National BSA Policies Related To Boards Of Review


Scouts 18 or older. Scouts who have completed all requirements for a rank prior to their 18th birthday should submit their application and be reviewed and recognized within three months after that date. For Eagle Scout boards of review conducted between three and six months after the candidate's 18th birthday, a statement explaining the reason for the delay must be attached to the Eagle Scout Rank Application when it is submitted to the Eagle Scout Service. If an Eagle Scout board of review will be held after the six months following the candidate's 18th birthday, the Eagle Scout must petition the National Boy Scout Committee for an extension of time to hold the board of review. The petition must be processed through the local council, detailing the extenating circumstances that prevented the board of review from being held within the six-month period following the candidate's 18th period, and be accompanied with a copy of the Eagle Scout Rank Application.


Not found on national site but I have heard that there is a fee involved having an EBoR after the six months of the cansiadate's 18th birthday.

I've seen a boy go too long after his 18th BDay. I kept trying to encourage him to finish the papers, but apparently someone else had told him there was no hurry.

When they finally did the BOR, it was almost 6 months after his BDay. They grilled him pretty hard about the delay, and almost didn't approve his Eagle. The boy and the District Advancement Chair had to write letters to accompany the application when it was sent to national.


This boy's younger brother turned 18 last June. His mother called me about 2 days before his BDay to see if there was a way to get the deadline extended. In this case, there had been some medical problems that MAY HAVE slowed his progress in the last year. With mom doing the leg-work, and gathering papers from doctors, etc., the boy has been officially recognized as a disabled scout. He can finish up whenever he gets around to doing it. Since he was granted the extension I have seen NO progress in actually finishing. At this point, I doubt that he ever will.
