Which eagle? Or does it matter?

Postby spl08 » Sun Aug 05, 2007 12:18 am

Generally, when you see some of the pictures that are symbolic of Eagle Scouts, you see the Bald Eagle. Even on the Eagle medal you see that bird (at least it sure looks like a Bald Eagle). The thing that I'm wondering is this: Is the "Eagle" in Eagle Scout supposed to be a Bald Eagle? If so, should it be? is that just something that's just sort of something that they've advertised it as? The Bald Eagle is thief in the natural world; it steals all the time. That certainly isn't something that's represenative of an Eagle Scout's character.

Then again, does it really matter? Doesn't "Eagle" generally symbolize power, knowledge, strength, rareity?

I'm not sure BSA has specified the Bald Eagle, but the USA has. The Eagle is the highest rank in the BSA, because it is the symbol of our country. There is no such thing as Eagle Scout in other countries. They have their highest ranks, fitting for their countries.

in some countries there are In Zambia Eagle scout is the highest rank as well. Anyway though, you have a good point. That does seem to be something that we as Americans have come up with. But should it be?
