Leader Fest 2008-LSU?

Postby LSR » Sat Jan 05, 2008 8:08 pm

Had to pass on U of Scouting at SMU this year :( (Shame, because the Dallas/Ft Worth councils put on some superb training. I always feel like I'm visiting rich relatives when I go there!) I went surfing to find other ones and came across this from the Istrauma council in Baton Rouge. Sounds like fun (and we just started a Venturing crew, so the Venturing courses will be particuarly welcome.)

Scouting U

Postby riverwalk » Sun Jan 06, 2008 5:39 pm

Just attended, and presented at the University of Scouting. Don't have numbers personally, but it was well attended. At the opening, we heard from our Scout Executive for Council. Not only is he an Eagle, I learned that he is also a WB Course director. Interesting.

Anyway, what are the details for the "U" mentioned, so we might consider attending also?

This is not a good year for me and Univ of Scouting! :( LA Purchase Council's is on the day of Norwela's Iditarod. I've got a nephew in the Troop who'll be there for his 1st Iditarod, so I have to be there (and with 2-3 sleds, we'll need extra adults.)

The Istrauma Council's site is http://www.iac-bsa.org/ Never been there before, but I've never been to a badly done BSA class yet (Univ of Scouting @ Circle 10, Commissioner's College @ Longhorn, Trainer Development @ Longhorn and Scoutmaster/Outdoor Leadership @ Norwela. The quality of the classes/presenters beats the pants off of 90+% of the training I've suffered through in my "real" jobs.) There's a huge Barnes & Noble and several superb Mediterainian places to eat in Baton Rouge, so I'll be there the night before!

What did you present at Univ of Scouting?

At the "U"

Thanks for the link. Last Fall, I tried to get into the Boy Scout of Cub training sections, or both. Then some Medical adventures laid me out (again!). 2007 was rough on me, haha. While recuperating, I was asked to present at the Commissioner section too. Another procedure knocked me down. At the last week, I was asked to help put on Pack Trainer. I was happy to do so. It's one of my hats anyway  .

While there, the wife (after presenting an awesome crafts class), was awarded her top and final Commissioner Science honors. They bragged on her project. Anyway, I've heard mostly great things about the University effort this time.

Leaderfest was very well done. Had a good time and learned alot about Venturing as well as NYLT/NAYLE. I started out of neccessity and now go for variety to out of Council events like this. It's always good to go to a training event put on by a group of folks you don't know. I learn as much from them as I do from the classes.
