Not to continue far down the BALOO trail in a Wood Badge thread, but it all relates well.
Any Scouter wanting to do their best, would likely accept required trainings to stay in compliance. And by attending trainings, the Unit benefits. And by veteran members attending, a clear example is made for the newer people. Nothing wrong with going to BALOO, even if skilled in the outdoors. The better point is this. Anyone just having one trained person in the Unit misses the BSA point. They want at least one BALOO person on the actual overnighter. So you should get a number of BALOO folks ready, or you'll have to cancel some outings if the one isn't available. And better still, any member with background to draw from, should be asking to help the Training team.
Too many Scouters with tenure, are the campfire types in the room, IMHO. They may be at official trainings, but stand at the back of the room, or go in and out, or chat with their "buds" instead of being a resource in the room.
