First Weekend of Wood Badge Next Week

Speaking of food....our patrol is now developing our menu for our second weekend of Wood Badge. Needs to be light, but filling.

You probaly also want to plan for the meals to be somewhat quick to prepare and clean up.

Yes.....that was one thing our Patrol Guide suggested....quick prep and quick cleanup....as time will be an issue. All weekend it was go....go....go. So I'm sure the second Wood Badge weekend will be the same.

Thinking breakfast bars for breakfast...maybe oatmeal (instant).

Lunch....packages of tuna or other that is pre-packaged in the envelopes.

Dinner....still working on that.

Seriously though Instant Stuffing mix and a can of Chicken.
DRain the water off the chicken and put the chicken in the stuffing mix and then just make the stuffing as directed. We eliminated the cans ahead of time and put the chicken in ziplock bags.

we had to prepare meals because we had guest come to our campsite to dine with us from the staff. Still have people talking about that weekend. I also hate to say this but if all yall other critters will look at the size of most BEARS then maybe yall would stay quite because what we lack in numbers we make up in size and also we like to eat. also heck to see if you guys will have guest to dine with you. then you might have to make adjustments. if you do let me know and I will help you plan menus.

I know I'm late to this party, but let me clear a couple things up. First, how did we get from working on Wood Badge staff to eating each other!?!?!?!
I just completed Wood Badge for the second time in Aug in hopes of being selected for staff. That is the fundimental part I still have to do my tickets again. I was teaching Scoutmaster Skills at a my council fall training this weekend and the Council VP Training took me aside and told me I was going to be asked to be in staff so that worked out.
So as a person that has just gone through a second time let me say you all got it about right.
Since the new course started in 2000 they had to let those that took it under the old program to be staff. And once you are staff in the new program you can be on staff again, and again... If you are like me and went through under the old program and were not on staff before 2005 in the new program BSA HQ says you have to take the new program to be selected for staff.
Yes, you are to give up your beeds, but again you keep them but should not ware them. I am doing this, but not to the letter of the law. When I was teaching scoutmaster skills and promoting training I felt having my beeds on helped show I had walked the walk so I wore them.
We are a small council and only have one course every two years so it will be awhile before I actually get to be on staff, but it takes time to prep so the work should start soon.
I was one of three that took it a second time and the only one that kept the same patrol as my first course. Why would I want to change when I'm an Owl, the best patrol in Wood Badge!

I had hoped to update this earlier, but just got busy.

Final weekend of Wood Badge was great. Got all of my ticket items approved and I am already getting to work on them.

I just completed another ticket item last night (coordinating and implementing troop fundraiser).

We had a Chili Supper and had a HUGE turnout to support our boys that will be going to Summer Camp this year.

This has been an annual event that had been on the decline the past few years.

I took the reigns of the project this year and applied the knowledge I gained from Wood Badge and was able to get this done.

The boys deserve a lot of the credit for getting out and selling tickets and such. I had a team of adults that went out to get donations of food items for the chili (and fixings). Another team went out to get donations of door prizes.

I have one more ticket item remaining.

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to complete my last ticket item until August of this year. This was due to the fact that my last ticket item was to be trained and earn the TRAINED patch for my new position as Unit Commissioner. I thought that next opportunity for this would be in August during the Longhorn Council Commissioner's College.

I had been lobbying a couple of folks with the council that they needed to hold Unit Commissioner training more frequently.

Good news! While at the council's Wood Badge Dinner last night, I was informed that the Longhorn Council will be sponsoring Unit Commissioner Specific Training on Saturday, March 15th at the council offices.

This means I will be able to have all of my ticket items completed five months earlier than I had thought.

Kudos on the progress. Maybe you're suggestions took seed, or they just want to help get some UC's trained. Either way the local Units will benefit. I fully intend serving in a UC role as soon as some of my other hats wear out, haha. There is almost always a need for more commissioners out there. My District is splitting again, and needs to duplicate everything.

I was asked to be a UC back in September and still didn't know what they wanted me to do.

Thus, "hounding" our district chairperson (who was the Scribe at my Wood Badge course) could have help.
