Green Jacket

Postby ThunderingWind » Sat Feb 09, 2008 1:54 pm

Venturers need to have a green jacket sold by the Supply Division.

Troops have the red one, Teams have the orange one.

Need ? No , Might be a Good Idea? Yes

Remember in Venturing a Uniform is not a requirement.

My Reasons

Postby ThunderingWind » Sun Feb 10, 2008 1:21 pm

My reasons are two pronged.

1) I believe in full fairness. If the Troop and Teams have one, the Crew should also. Everything else is matched and available (program appropriate).

2) There is another reason that I can not share here.

ThunderingWind ~ as I understand your message, you are recommending that a Fleece Lined Warm Up Jacket in green be offered to Venturers, as the red one is to Boy Scouts, the orange one is to Varsity, and the blue one is to Cubs. (Photos and descriptions on scoutstuff.org.)

Does anyone know how to make a product suggestion to BSA? Some of the newer products, specifically hiking clothes, are great.

Venturing

Postby riverwalk » Sun Feb 10, 2008 8:42 pm

Hmmm, I know some Venturing types, using the green fleece since at least 2002 here. Maybe it was a field test? :)

For the reason #2 that I can not publish here, I really need it to an official uniform item (optional, of course) and not a field test or other temporary item.

I am sorry if I seemed to cloud the issue by not explaining my reason number 2 above.

Please understand that I need to keep my role as father of a Crew member/Camp Staff Employee separate from my role as an adult volunteer (in several positions).

Thank you.

In full fairness, since the Crew members selects their own uniform. It does not even have to be green. No rules or regs on color

The laws of supply and demand are also kicking in. We have a female crew that is decked in Pink. We have a crew that favors the green shirt supplied by National, but had their own jackets designed. We have another crew that has Dickie jeans and their own custom T-shirt as their uniform

BTW, the cost of a custom jacket would be less than National. So why would you want Crew members with a stock item at higher prices?

But Councils set the rules for Camp Staff. And it is this area that I am hoping national will step up to the plate and make a Crew jacket.

I, too, have a burn your eys blind, hot optical pink crew t-shirt with the official colored logo in the upper left chest - the boys of the crew picked this one.

All official BSA uniform items must be purchased from National Supply Division or the local Council office (and licensed retailers in some areas).

It is not that I want them to spend more money, I want national to make the same item available to Crews as they do Troops and Teams.

OK Here is how you solve the problem. You offer all the staff an "official camp staff jacket" we do this each year at conestopga and that is the jacket that is worn. Most time it is a Fleece (green) the past few years and it had the camp logo on it. Last years was a convertible jacket/vest.

ThunderingWind,

I now see what you are after. A staff jacket for camp. Our local council approves the designs, colors, etc and it becomes the "official" gear.

I would run the request up the flag pole. It is reasonable. Good luck with National supply.
