Philmont training this summer

Postby LSR » Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:48 pm

I'll be going to the United Methodist Scouters' Conference at Philmont this summer. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it. I was wondering, has anyone on the board gone to classes at Philmont? What were they like? How do they compare to any council sponsored training you might have had? Are you allowed/will you have time for any hiking in the area? How much of a 2nd mortgage did you have to take out to finance the Tooth of Time Traders? (Two grandchildren, three nephews in Scouts.... I'm going broke! )

Philmont

Haha  , hey they make it easy at the store. You can even shop them on line once you get home and make more money.

Yes I'm a conference attendee, and hope to do more soon. It's an amazing experience. It has been said that there are a few places on the Planet known to most Scouting organizations. Philmont is one of them.

Yes, the PTC information gives an accurate time line of your stay there, meaning many classes are not held on Wednesday. This permits you taking one of the several hikes designed for the attendees. And there is a neat Philmont postmark for your mail on Wednesday, so send some postcards or something. FYI, I did run into confusion from staff on whether I could go see the T-Rex track, which was my hike of first choice. Then at the end of the week, a staffer took time to take me up there, so they wanted me to enjoy my experience. I do hope to take other hikes, and even hope I can do a trek eventually. I've had a year of "issues" that kept me down somewhat.
