NESA Life Membership Square Knot Approved

Postby mt_goodrich » Fri May 09, 2008 9:48 am

The below is directly from the NESA's "Eagleletter" of Spring 2008

NESA Life Membership Square
Knot Approved

Life Members of the National Eagle Scout
Association can set themselves apart from
other Eagles with a special Eagle Scout
square knot—this one with a silver border
signifying their support of Eagle Scouts
through NESA Life Membership. (Only
one Eagle Scout Award square knot
may be worn.)

The new NESA Life Member/Eagle Scout
square knot, available June 1, 2008, allows
Eagle Scouts to show their dedication to
the mission of the Boy Scouts of America
through monetary commitment. Other such
Scouting recognition includes the James E.
West Fellowship Award square knot with the
1910 Society or Founder’s Circle device.

Hey, that's great! My oldest son aged out without making Eagle, but he did make Life. Can he become a Life Member now?

I don't know why they're not keeping it exclusively to Eagles, though...

Because it is the National Eagle Scout Association. Life Membership is for that organization not the BSA.

Great, now you can buy a nifty knot, the James West knot and now for a nice sum you can get a flashly eagle knot, I guess all Eagles are created equal, just some are more equal than others.

I have a problem with any knot that required you to cough up cash!

Quailman, the Life Membership is not referring to Life Scouts. It is referring to Eagle Scouts that are "Life Members" of the National Eagle Scout Association.

You still must be an Eagle Scout.

Paying 180.00 for the membership and then getting a knot. That is expensive. They say its to support NESA

Why would they want to make a difference? I guess scouts who can not afford it, cant get it. I guess I will be one of the have (knots).

I am proud of my knot and I do not forget what the Eagle rank means to me as well as its obligations. I view it as what you continue to do in scouting. I have seen so many scouts get Eagle and then vanish. If they went off to College and could not participate locally fine. I am talking about High school scouts.

If your wearing the knot it means your involved that is the most important. We as adults spend our time and money already for the scouts benefit. I do not need to buy another one.

Wow. I'm not a big fan of buying knots but I'm going to look at it anyway. I was thinking about getting a Life membership sometime anyway.
