I think it is important that it seems that BSA is getting away from such a formal uniform.

I disagree. Some may embrace this but I like the formal uniform....give it time and Class Bs will be extinct with this uniform which I must admit might not be a bad thing.

WHat I am going to say Is only my opinion so get over it.
When I was a scout in the Late 50s and 60's we wore our Uniform to camporees,Meetings,Community Service and at Scout camp until it got too messed up to wear. I see the present uniform as being only worn for special occasions by the youth today. COH, Flag Ceremonies, etc. it is kind of a Sunday go to Meetin suit if you all know what I mean.
I see this new uniform being more what BP envisioned. Scouts out camping in uniform. I realize there will be leaders that will say NO Uniforms but it is a scout activity.
I presently have exactly that type of shirt and pants that I wear when I am out an about Geocaching,Fishing,Walking the Dog ,Backpacking, cutting the grass. SO i am used to the bellows breast pockets and the Swiss Loops on the sleeve. If the leaders give these a chance I see them working out well but only time will tell. I am quite sure that Venturing will be next with a change. I only hope the Term Venture Patrol is stricken from all BSA Literature with the coming of this new uniform.

*backs off* I never was trying to change your opinion, I was just stating mine. I grew up in a time when the uniform was for special occasions. Nothing wrong with that. You grew up in a time when it was used for all occasions, again nothing wrong with that. I guess it's just what I'm used to.

There isn't much difference from the current one. Mainly color & a few bells & whistles.

I agree with Ed on this, The uniform is more evolutionary than revolutionary. The new material choices seem to be an improvement. I like the new look , but then I like the old look as well. The main thing I do not like is did did not see knee socks on the flyer.

I do not see the uniform being the primary back country wear as long it is a $100 a pop.

Yes can go to your local hiking store & spend 100+ on good clothes, that are worth the money. You do not have to though.

My last pair of switchbacks were $20.00 thank to the 2-4-1 sale.

I took my first pair as primary pants at northern tier. They worked quite well.

My synthetic shirt was 20ish at campmor
My other synthetic pant were 15ish at campmor.
I paid similar prices for my micro fleece clothing.
All on sale

Without going into the military clothing thing, You can find great deals at army surplus stores, some even give scouts a discount.

But then I am thrifty (My son says on am bordering on cheap)

Please do not go into the Military clothing as it is strictly prohibited under the BSA Charter and you may be removed from the program for wearing it.

I was referring more to the non military clothing that is carried at the military surplus stores at least in my area. Sorry I was not more clear. I was not trying to start that discussion

I love it because it is more rugged and outdoors oriented than the current one. I am one of those who thinks our current uniform is much too formal. I want to wear it camping, backpacking, and fishing. It *should* get dirty and handle the dirt well, IMO.

Good job BSA, and about time!

I like it...

However, IMHO, I think the current Class A should stay as the formal Class A. This new one doesn't seem to be appropriate for COHs, meetings with groups(i.e. a meeting with an organization rep. regarding an Eagle Project proposal), or an Eagle BOR/COH. I just think those are more formal occasions, and I wouldn't want to look the same as when I am backpacking.

As I said, I like it. But I would actually need to see it on someone in person to make a decision.

From what I have seen so far, it looks okay to me. I would still like to see one up close and personal.

I need to see one in person I guess. Shiwed pics of it at the COH. Mixed reaction. We shall see.

I believe it will be more durable, my question is what will be sewn on these uniforms?

If it is meant to be "In the FIeld", are we going to sew knots, and camporee patches, and Jamboree patches, and patrol patches, and quality unit patches, and etc.etc.etc. on these things or will they be "stripped down" and ready to play.

If we keep it stripped down, I'm for it. If we are going to decorate it like a Christmas tree, then let's forget it.
