Aflmom what e-mail address can we send a letter to. I do not see one on your profile. As Wagionvigil mentioned I think it would be beneficial if those on here that can, send a letter in support for you to present to the EBOR with the other Letters of Reference. Please advise! You can send me an e-mail with the e-mail address in it.

I'm very surprised to hear you don't have a MB sash. Wearing the Sash shows everyone, in and out of scouts, your individual accomplishments and having them in a display case just you can enjoy seems odd to me. The Sash is a great discussion item with the scout at the EBORs I've been on because it shows the scout's interest in other areas than ER badges.

I just don't want anyone to feel obligated to send a letter. It's not necessary. The support itself has been more than sufficient!

I've highlighted the main points that I am concerned (not the word I wanted to use, but the only one I could think of). First of all, I'm an odd person. I like to wear jeans in the summer and shorts in the winter, I do things backwards a lot too....Offtopic: I just like to say that I don't know why :P

I'm a semi shy kinda guy, but I am very open and extroverted with my friends and I always love to go out and have fun. I don't like to "show off" my individual accomplishments. I hardly like to show anything off at all. I don't wear jewelry, I don't buy clothes from American Eagle or South Pole or anything like that. My choice of clothing accessories are two rubber armbands (one is the LIFE armband and the other a LIVEPURE one) and a pair of dogtags. For me the MB sash is just too "glamorous" and doesn't fit my taste. Now, team awards is something I love to proudly wear and display. Team efforts and awards given for the like are things I'm very proud of. Individual accomplishments just don't have as much meaning to me.

I know some of you might say well, what about Eagle scout? thats an individual accomplishment. Well, I believe to the contrary. I would never have been able to make Eagle Scout (rather, soon to possibly make Eagle) without the help of my friends, mom, you guys, and the rest of my family. I believe that this road to Eagle has been a team effort involving many people and I'm proud of what we've accomplished together :D

The operative phrase is "in and out of scouts". You aren't showing off and there is no need to think you are. You are an ambassador for the BSA. You never know when that one boy might see you and decide I wanna do that. Also the younger guys respond to older scouts all decked out.

We are all a little odd!

Good luck.

My sons generally liked wearing their sashes, but they are especially valuable when you are interacting with young scouts and cubs/webelos. It is a very visual example of all the cool things they can do if they stay in scouting as they get older.

Any letters should go to the Council since the EBOR destroys them after the EBOR and the gulity will have plausible deniability. They might not even read them since we're not listed on his Eagle application.

The letter I have sent to aflmom, is addressed to the Chairman of the EBOR and it supports aflmom's son and informs them to examine the Councils Advancement Procedures.(A lot more info. but thats the one sentence synopsis)

I think we should send them to the EBOR Chair...and then send them to Council for review.

But I definitely think they should be handed to the EBOR Chair tonight(if they read them GREAT if they don't we make sure we send to Council as well).

At minimum it will show the EBOR tonight that aflmom's son has support from around the country.

But I agree smtroop168 that these should go to council as well.

Sorry I didn't get to this update until late (I really hate it when work interferes with Scouting :x )

I hope all went well and I look forward to an update (soon!).

Regardless of the outcome, I still urge you (both) to not let it drop. You are in a position to address a very serious flaw in the Scouting organization there and potentially help many future Scouts.

I've got some good news :)

I was under the impression that my EBoR was to be held at 7PM, but they said it was supposed to start at 7:30PM. I was not asked in until 7:50ish and my EBoR lasted one hour and fifteen minutes (Mom was keeping track of the time lol). I had brought in a recorder and when the BoR started I placed it on the desk and started recording. That lasted about a good 15 seconds before one of them jumped down my neck as to what it was and why I wanted to record the BoR. I told them the truth, that I wanted to be able to save this for later and be able to have a lasting memory that I would be able to share with my family ten or twenty years on down the road. Well, they told me to shut the thing off and that it wasn't "allowed". So much for having a lasting memory :P

To make a long story short as of tonight I am the troops newest Eagle Scout. :D 8)

Theres a bunch of other details that I'd go into, but I've got a bad headache and I am really tired right now. Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer them.

Thank you all for the support and the references! It has meant a lot!

Sincerely,
Andrew

PS. smtroop168, they asked me the very same question about me not having a MB sash. I gave them the very same answer

Congratulations Now you NEED to have a COH even if it a picnic in the back yad or vat the beach You need to keep this from happening to any other scout from your troop and council. ANdrew as you have learned all scouters are not like the ones you have been exposed to. I love scouting and I believe you can give a whole lot back to the BSA maybe not to your troop.

Congratulations.

There was never any doubt in my mind that you should have passed the EBOR. However, with the other things that had happened, I had my fingers crossed.

Gee, guess there's not much for me to say since Andrew said it all!

I am totally exhausted....There were only 3 people there for the EBOR. I'm not sure what happened to the others. The SM also stayed in the room, and he had written a reference letter without even being asked. I thought that was nice of him.

They did ask a couple questions that were probably inappropriate related to one of the knots--what's another name for it and the uses of the knot.

Another scout in the troop presented his project before Andrew's BOR and was turned down. He was told he needed to do some more work on it. I don't understand why someone didn't go over his packet ahead of time before he met with the committee.

I probably had an overkill with all the documentation. Besides my 3 page letter (that ended up being longer than what I wrote above), I had 14 attachments. I included his resume, two college transcripts (cumulative gpa 3.9, a letter from the Davidson Institute ( a national organization for kids that are in the 99.9% or higher), reference and thank you letters starting in 2003 before he was even a scout from the volunteer work he did to help different organizations, and the references I received today.

I'm just totally amazed that people would be willing to give a reference for someone they hadn't met. For all you know, I could have been making the story up or putting a spin on it.

It will be interesting to see what happens as far as the application. It's my understanding that since it's after 5/1, he needed to use the new form. Andrew filled that out today and took it with him. The CC insisted he could use the old form since the work had been done prior to 5/1. I hope that doesn't turn out to be another delay.

I have no idea if my lengthy letter and docs were read or not, or if they will even be turned in. I'm not sure what the procedure is.

Thanks again everyone from the bottom of my heart.
