Atta boy CrossF!r3! Never a doubt!

Kinda makes you wonder why they wouldn't want the BOR taped? Maybe because they have totally distorted it & don't wanna get caught?

Once all the paper work is finished it is Your responsibility to keep this from happening again. This advancement committee needs replaced or trained and told to do it by the book. My vote is public flogging but you can't do that any more

Wagion is referring to what we call the Eagle Charge:

EAGLE SCOUT CHARGE
I reaffirm my allegiance to the three promises of the Scout Oath I thoughtfully recognize and take upon myself the obligations and responsibilities of the rank of Eagle Scout On my honor I will do my best to make my training an example my rank and my influence count strongly for better Scouting and for better citizenship in my troop and in my community and in my contacts with other people to this I pledge my sacred honor.

When the time comes, I was thinking of taking the letter I shared here (which was somewhat revised and added to) and including it with a cover letter and sending it off to ????.

What's the process from here? Does his packet now get sent to national? Are his reference letters or anything I wrote included? I think I read somewhere that they are destroyed??

The new eagle scout mentioned last night that he would like to be a JASM. However, there's that age requirement and he won't turn 16 until the end of the year. Since he decided to defer admission to the university until NEXT fall, he will be around the troop longer. He thinks he'll enjoy the scouting experience a lot more now that the work and hassles are done, and he can relax.

I'm glad we get to keep him another year. :D

The only thing that gets sent to National is his application and most Councils do that electronically now so no paper actually goes there.

The Letters from the EBOR are supposed to be destroyed and not shared with the Eagle Candidate as not to embarrass him. Nothing you wrote or anyone else will be sent to anyone hence our recommendation to keep copies for yourself.

My recommendation is to send the letter to National either addressed to the Chief Scout Executive or the Director of Advancement. Either way the DoA will get it for action.

How about Camp Staff at your Council Camp? Or a Neighboring council camp?

Aflmom, we did it because a Scout is trustworthy and helpful.

I love that Andrew brought a recorder and set in on the table. I'm sure they looked over the letters and the last thing they wanted was that tape getting back to us, and then getting more letters from us critiquing them(again).

They told me it was against the "rules" to record the BoR. Before I came up with the idea, I did a fair bit of research and I couldn't find anything saying that a BoR couldn't be taped, but I had figured that they would say something to that effect. However much I couldn't record, it was fun just to take it in and put it on the table. Their first reaction was absolutely priceless.

I don't know the ins and outs, but he said if the tape recorder is in plain sight and no one questions it, it is implied consent. I knew they wouldn't go for it, but he wanted to at least try. :)

They spent about 25 minutes looking over his things (or talking) before he was called into the meeting. They must have read some of it!

We'll have to check into the camps. The past two summers, mission trips and summer camps have fallen during the same week. I know he went to one summer camp and ended up being an assistant. It was a positive experience, and he loved it. He was going to apply for the following summer but it didn't work out due to the time frame.

Andrew,

The little I know of you from this postings you are a true Eagle Scout. You should have a Court of Honor (COH) and invite the media. During the COH your acceptance of the Eagle Badge should include the hardships that you went through in earning it to include so called scouters not following the rules.

Andrew...have a COH that fits you, but have one. The morons that caused all this grief won't show anyway but if you have free food, WAGION will be there for sure. :)

See my #3 of my CSE for a day post for how to handle the recorder issue.

My son Andrew's ECOH is on 5/31. He's working on his remarks to basically thank all those who have helped him and he hopes to help others in the future.

I'm on a diet
But in that vain. I had a scout about 14 years ago make his Eagle shortly after my son finished his. Mike and my son were best friends in scouts. His father a very active asst SM and Lodge Member. When Mike finished his dad and mom were getting a divorce and he decided he did not want a COH. ABout two years ago I raqn in to him and we were talking Scouts he said now he regretted not having his COH. I told him Mike we can have one whenever you wish. He gave me a wierd look and I said I have no problem with doing this for you. Well we all got together one weekend and we had his COH. Jst Mike his dad and a couple of scouts that wre friends with him at that time. Mom also came with here new hubby. It was strange having a COH for a 26 year old man. He now feels complete that he is now an Eagle Scout. SO have the COH NOW like I said in the yard on a beach in a Tux carrying a Red Rose But Have it. You owe it to yourself and not the least your mom.

Crossf!r3 & Aflmom,
CONGRATS and WOW, what an ordeal! But, you made it and a whole bunch of new friends and supporters in the process. We all applaud you. Now "Soar with Eagles!". And, please follow up with a full report to National. The foot dragging and posturing needs to be corrected. And, you can search all you want but there is no rule about recording a BoR that I have ever heard of or can find. And please have that CoH. You will remember that feeling the rest of your life. And have Mom pin that Eagle on "your tunic." Since you have the time, give back byu helping the next Eagle candidates that are in line, either in your Troop or the Council.

Good Luck,
Bill

Andrew,

Remember that if you have a COH it is your's to plan and not the troops. You select the date, time & location, set the program and invite (or exclude) anyone that you want.

I recommend inviting your Cub packs to the COH. It is one of the best ways to encourage kids to stay in scouting when they cross over.

This would be a great idea. Impart the Eagle legacy in them while they are young. I was always impressed by Eagle COHs when I was young.

That's too funny since the guy, that has been giving Andrew a lot of grief and had his project since Dec, said to let him know when he was going to have his COH and that he would help make it special for Andrew.

I think Andrew will go ahead with a COH after he's had time to regroup and when he feels better about the accomplishment. Perhaps sometime in the fall...

I really appreciate everyone's congratulations. I was looking at the wiki page that goes into all the advancement procedures. I would like to compile all the steps for kids in the troop (or plagiarize from another source) However, I want an attachment that gives the names and phone numbers of the different people involved. I realize that information can change (thus the reason I want an attachment). It needs to be organized in such a manner that any parent or scout can see at a glance who does what and where they're at in the process.
