PLC PROBLEM

Hey if I can throw out a quick question even though it dosent follow this topic exactly but follows along the lines of the PLC and meetings. I have a PLC of ALL new scouts oldest are in their second year of scouting. I have 4 years of scouting plus Cub Scouts and I am Trained. I realized at the PLC meeting we had a few weeks back the scouts were complaining about not having fun in scouts or not making any decisions as a PLC. I focused more on that at the last PLC and realized the SM(who is a guest) was throwing out ideas and then finalizingthem because the scouts were to afraid to speak up and try to change it. I dont blame them, I would feel that way too. So I had a PLC meeting with no adults and it worked fabulously. They decided what the troop needs and completed all our tasks. After the meeting I asked them if they liked this meeting better, and they all said yes. Are we allowed to have a PLC Meeting with no adults present? If not can we have a meeting with no adults present till the end when we bring them in then tell them what we decided? Its just not working with the SM there. And some ASM's realize that.

I'm not sure about whether or not you can. But be careful, things can get out of hand if you don't have adults. I'm not saying don't do it I'm just saying if things get ugly let them back in.

I have been doing it for a weeks now and it just keeps getting better.

There is nothing wrong with having a PLC without adults in attendance and then presenting them with your plans. That is the way a troop should be run

Personally, I would not let the PLC meet without adult leaders present and accountable. I serve as the SM and have an ASM in attendance as well, however, we limit the role the adult leaders can have. I have the SM Minute at the end of the meeting, and neither myself or my assistant speak or get involved unless asked to by the PLC.

Remember having adult leadership present does not mean they have to sit around the planning table.

If you are unsuccessful at limiting the SM's role, engage the CC to assist you.

I agree as adult leaders we are suppose to help guide the kids but not tell them what to do or plan there events.
