Law Suits and BORs

Postby Scouting179 » Sun Dec 05, 2004 8:23 pm

Please do not discuss law suits involving admitted atheists, homosexuals, or cases that went beyond the age limit for Eagle to this thread, those cases are well known and outside what I'm looking for....Having said that....

Does anyone know of any actual cases (involving a law suit actually being filed) where a Scout was held up at a SM Conference or BOR and the troop, BSA, Council, or adults involved were sued in court? I'm thinking of possibities like "he wasn't active enough", "he didn't do his troop job", etc.

I would suspect that if this has occurred, that often by the time a suit actually got into a court it'd be a moot point (unless the age limit had been hit) as the Scout probably had plenty of time to fix his deficiency.

Usually just the threat stops the process. We had a young man that was accused of shooting a BB gun at a neighbor girl. The local district tried to hold up the young mans Eagle as he had passed his BOR before all this took place. A suit was filed and it was immediately settled as he was given his Eagle. Oh by the way he was found innocent.

Scouting179,
Are you familiar with the appeals process that is available to every scout to resolve exactly the kinds of conflict you suggest?

Yes, I am, I'm simply wondering about actual law suits filed within the parameters I discussed.

:? I don't know of any Suits for this issue. I only know of one, relating to an activity that resulted in a serious injury.
