Yep, that's exactly what I was saying. The money issue is a big one for me too, if people (troop leaders/church folks) hadn't been willing to help out I would have never been able to do much of anything in scouts. I hate hearing money as the reason kids don't go on activities.

our council has camperships for summer camp. SCouts can apply for them and a committee makes the decison based upon need. They do expect at least the March deposit to be paid by the family/scout when at all possible

Ok my take on the required canoeing trip. how many boys could possibly go on this trip? find out since this is a required trip the where is the troop leadership going to get the money for the 20 boys that they are making go. IMHO if I make a trip required then the people in charge need to pay for this trip and not the boys. if a trip cost that much and the BOYS PLC voted on this trip there should be fundraisers involved. but if this was from an adults meeting then get off the high horse and make scouting FUN. not expensive.

AMEN!!!!!!!!! My feelings exactly! Just the same with them trying to say that to be SPL in our troop you have to first be Whitestag trained! That did not fly at all with the parents or the boys! If the troop wants to cough up the money and pay for the training, then I could see it. But all these rules and regulations are making it no fun for the boys to be in the troop!

Every boy deserves a trained leader.
Every boy deserves a trained leader.
Every boy deserves a trained leader.
