Experiances with Night activities at Camporees

In a fit of insanity, last spring I volunteered our troop to host our districts Spring Camporee in 2009.

While our daytime program has an orienteering/backpack theme, my PLC asked if in-lieu of a Campfire on Saturday Night, we could do a night program featuring a night orienteering hike of some sort.

Where we are holding this event is nicely suited to this sort of thing, as it is a state park that is large, for Connecticut anyway (about 5 sq miles), well aportioned with hiking trails, and has very clearly defined geographic borders on all four sides.

Has anyone ever tried something like this at a camporee?

Am I Mad for trying it , it is already fairly well established that I must be mad to be an SM.

One of the first concerns with a state park would be not to disturb other campers & is it OK with the ranger. Sounds like it would be fun though. I would also be sure that the patrols carried enough that if they did get misplaced they would be protected.

I have seen a Night GPS program held recently. One rule was that talking had to be limited.
I think it is a great idea to do a night activity. We have ben having Night activities at OA weekend for a few years and our participation is up.
