Being Prepared for Eagle SM Conference

After 2-1/2 months, the Scoutmaster Conference was completed yesterday at this month's campout. It lasted 2-1/2 hours.

Eagle BOR's don't last this long! What did they talk about for 2 1/2 hours?

After 2-1/2 months, the Scoutmaster Conference was completed yesterday at this month's campout. It lasted 2-1/2 hours.

When I see things like this happen it drives me crazy because this is what drives boys away from scouting or even wanting to make Eagle.

The most bothersome is the time it took to take to have the SMC.

I have to tell you that some of my Eagle SMCs have lasted for a couple of hours...but before you go nuts...it was because I couldn't get the scout to stop talking. We covered the scouting part about his EBOR, but we also talked in depth about joining the Army, his recent Vigil election, his school and his struggles with dyslexia, his brother in Iraq (his Mentor and previous troop ES). It was amazing how much I didn't know about him even after he had been in the troop for 3 years.

I also just had a SMC on the AT last weekend on our Troop hike on the AT in 16 degree weather. Scout was hanging back so we chatted about an hour as we hiked.
