Not Going After All

Postby ThunderingWind » Wed Mar 04, 2009 11:24 pm

I thought the process was over. I was interviewed by the SM of one Troop. We exchanged some e-mails and ideas. I even received a bill from the Council for the Jamboree fees that had been established.

Then tonight I get a phone call telling me I was not selected.

Bummer............Add on top of this the ever growing possibility that our Sea Base trip will be cancelled because our female leadership never paid. The killer thing is that it MY daughter going. She is the only girl going (Sea Base will not let me be her parent while there). And I am supposed to be the Advisor for her Crew. Her mother cannot go because she will still be chasing camels "over there in the war."

That really stinks. I am sorry to hear that. I am curious as to why Seabase would not let your daughter go even though you are going along as the crew advisor. I wish I could help you out there.

Sea Base (and all the BSA high Adventure sites) hold absolutley steadfast that if there is a female youth on the roster, there MUST BE a female leader. Even though rules in the Venturing program allow us not have female leadership with us at all times if is one girl and her Dad is presesnt as a leader.

WV - How strict are they going to be on the new height and weight provisions for adult medical in the action center staff?

My doctor said that it is a bunch of crap that the BSA lawyers are pushing this. Basically those height and weights are from the world health organization and factor in a large asian population. He told me that i am cleared for any high adventure activity without restrictions as far as he is concerned. He told me i am as healthy as an ox but the problem is that i am as big as one too. I can understand weight limits if there is an absolute limit but what difference does it make if I am 5'10 and 250 or 6'5 and 250? I think it would be harder to transport 6'5 person than me if the weight is the same.

Good. I was just curious i had heard that our council was using them as requirements for the troops.

15 - 22 Jul. This is a Keys Adventure trip. So we are at Brinton and not the mail Sea Base facility.

We are flying from PIT to Cleveland then on to Fort Lauderdale. We could always "pick you up" in Cleveland. Current price is $1300. No room in budget to pay for a replacement leader. We could do it if we get all 18 paid youth slots filled. But with this economy..........

We have the following space available:

Crew A: 2 youth and one Female Advisor My priority Crew
Crew B: 3 youth and one Advisor (currently this is an all male Crew)
Crew C: 6 youth and 2 Advisors

I shared this trip with all the other Councils in our Area once my Council let me. I think it was too late for this trip.

Too bad you are not going one week earlier!

I am on the staff for the Across Ohio Bicycle Adventure, which is the following week and need to be here to help with the final tour preparations. I do hope you can work things out so everyone can go!
