I just went through the Online Course To check it out. Two years ago we were told it would never be online. Never is a long time :( I donot agree to have it there but if it makes it so more will take it I guess I am OK with it. I do see that one thing there is no excuse anymore for not having it. It did stress that it did not qualify a leader to teach climbing/rappelling and you MUST have a qualified Instructor. Just like the Tour Permits that are now online you cannot say you could not get to the service center or get to a class. You (the unit leader)are now responsible and will pay the price for not following the rules.
Our Chief Scout is going to force leaders to follow the rules. :D

They also give a list of approved Instructors in the Instruction listen closely.

WV - is COS a one and done or is it a renew every 2?

I think the one nice thing about the OLT modules is that everyone gets the same message. I have seen various courses where the instructor emphasizes some material in the syllabus more than others and there are always those "i know what BSA says but i recommend that ..... ". Consistency is the key to good training.

I am going to correct this. The new Tour Permit uses the word within the past two years Or words similiar so they want you to take it every two years.

I was wondering since they moved the youth protection to every 2 years. I think it is wise to do this as information can change and those of us that dont do this routinely can benefit from seeing the material again.

I would like to see some kind of refresher training developed for scout leaders so that the aims and methods get beat into them every couple of years. :D
