In Jan-Feb edition of Scouting magazine (pg 2) is states:
"The jamboree medical service will not support medical-device requirements...."
I think there's a leader in our 4-troop contingent that uses a CPAP machine.
Should he verify that he can attend?

Absolutely. He needs to find out. If he has a battery unit he may be OK. I am also going to take a wild guess here that he is at the upper end of appropriate weight for this Highth?

Yes, he needs to find out in advance. As Wagion said, if he has a battery pack, he may be ok. He will need to find out how he will recharge his batteries while attending. The subcamps do have electricity in the office/medical/staff dining hall/commissary area, but not in the Troop camping areas.

I have found an alternative for this man...............
12v car battery ($ whatever you chose)
DC to AC converter (the kind that are a little a larger and connect to the battery via small clamps) ($75 at Wal-Mart)
Marine (Boat) Battery case ($8 at Wal-Mart)
Coleman Solar Battery Charger ($75 at Wal-Mart)
Charge battery during the day while out and about. The current draw of the CPAP is low enough that this will work. I also used a similar setup (no solar charger) when I was building houses in Haiti in 2000 and 2003. We were able to use the national pwoer grid to recharge the battery each night on most nights using a standard Ac to DC auto battery charger.
My doctor just put me on one because I snore extremely loud. No O2 issues and not overweight. I have always snored since I was about 12 years old, and always very loudly. My snoring kept me from the "sneaky" part of the Army because I might give away my position when autorized to take a nap.
I will be using this setup for my second weekend of Wood Badge.

Where will the leader charge his unit? There is no electric in the Troop SItes. It would mean he would need to charge this in the sub camp HQ or some like place. The BSA said they will not support these devices at this Jamboree. He really needs to call someone higher up like at the National HQ and Find out.

WagionVigil......I guess I did not type correctly......
The car battery gets charged at home first (as they do not come fully charged off the shelf) using the normal AC to DC battery charger/tender
and then the solar panel keeps it charged during the day.
I have done math with my Cell Phone and Camera chargers and I can keep them plugged in and not really put a dent in the battery overnight.
My CPAP (which I am still getting used to) also has a low AMP draw and the solar panel will do nicely to refresh it during the day.

Hope it doesn't rain!

Pardon my teasing and non-scout like behavior.

Maybe we need to take the RAZZ off the Smilies to be in conformance with policy.
