National Camp School?

Postby divermann » Thu Apr 30, 2009 11:17 pm

Help Please. Our SE has ask me to be the Aquatics Director at our Council Camp this summer. Before I say yes, what should I REALLY expect at NCS-Aquatics? 35 years ago, I did earn BSA Lifeguard; but that was 35 years ago  Thanks in advance!

Thanks WV, I was sort of hoping for a little more detail  I'd like to do Bonner Scout Reservation, Blount's Creek, NC (I wan't to bring some information back to the council regarding Pamlico Sea Base-part of Bonner) IF they'll have me

You will swim alot row alot and canoe alot. I went to Schiff for Aquatics School in 1970. AL Cahill was the Instructor and he still teaches the reserts. Lots of class room.

Good Luck at the Aquatics Section! I did not envy those guys. They were up early and to bed late. It seemed like the only time that section wasn't in the water was when there was a meal or campfire. I went to NCS in 1992 and 2006 both for the Scoutcraft/Outdoor Skills Director Sections. That was fun because we got dirty. But in 2006, I went to NCS at Camp Berry, Ohio. I felt bad for those folks. The water was might cold. They actually made the Aquatics Directors jump in the camp pool for swim tests. We will say that it was might cold for those folks!
