More tidbits..some heard before:

QUOTE:

After talking with a few attendees at the Advancement conference at PTC, here are a few things that National is considering (according to a National advancement person who spoke to the class).

Other than what I've listed below, I have no details other than National is considering the following:

1) Combining "Citizenship in the Community" and "Citizenship in the Nation" into a single "Citizenship in the United States" merit badge. Then, using the freed up Eagle-required slot, making "Cooking" an Eagle-required badge.

At the same time, add more "life skills" cooking requirements to the badge. It's unclear if the new requirements would add to or replace current requirements.

2) Moving some/most/all of Tenderfoot skill requirements down to Webelos and Arrow of Light. The idea being that when Webelos w/ AOL cross-over, they'd get Tenderfoot instead of the Scout badge. (Editorial comment: I think this is a stinker of an idea...T-2-1 is already too compressed with inadequate skill development in many cases, not to mention even younger Eagles)

3) Girls, girls, girls: An early, exploratory effort to consider a progam for Scout-age girls using basically the same program as for Boy Scouts.

Like I said, no more concrete info than that, but interesting to see what is being looked at.

1. Cooking was required when I got Eagle
2. Webelos was part of Lions and to get AoL you completed the Tenderfoot requirements in the Dark Ages

These are really not new just rehasging them after40 years.

CO ed Scouting is coming just get ready. Will we loose Leaders? Probably. Will we get new ones? More than we loose. All those GSUSA leaders that what high adventure and fun will be signing up.

I heard somewhere that at first the units will not be mixed but separate Girl units and boy units. Then mix over time.

Will Training eventually be required? Its Coming. WHy all the online stuff? See Previous There is No longer any excuse for not getting training.

From my 1954 edition of the Lion/Webelos Book:

#3 Show that you are prepared in the Tenderfoot requirements as given in the Boy Scout Handbook. You will actually pass these tests to your Scoutmaster when you join a troop. Your Boy Scout Tenderfoot requirements are things you should be able to do by the time you become a boy scout. Your Den Chief can help you learn these.

New PORs, how cool is that!

Troop Webmaster and LNT Trainer. With all the new LNT requirements a LNT Trainer will be really helpful. LNT games and applied training can be a lot of fun. Troop Webmaster sounds a lot like the Scribe position, which we all know is every boy's favorite!

LNT trainer will at least ensure the Scout hut is clean after meetings.

Webmaster can at least be judged on how well the troop's site is maintained.

The last time I was in a cave, the other leader was concerned about getting stuck. I told him not to worry, since we practiced LNT, we would not leave the body. The guide thought that was funny.

That's funny because I have told some that I have been around long enough that I know where to hide the bodies so that no one will ever find them.

- requirements in effect on 1/1/2010

I've posted ALL the actual changes from the new Handbook on the USSSP (usscouts.org) site. A summary is at http://usscouts.org/advance/changes/advchanges10.asp.

The ones mentioned above are not the only changes. There are also changes to the Tenderfoot, 2nd Class & 1st Class "Scout Spirit" requirements, some other additions, and other minor wording changes. They also added a footnote clarifying the tenure requirement for Palms, which reads:
Eagle Palms must be earned in sequence, and the three-month tenure requirement must be observed for each Palm

One thing I noticed, the webmaster and LNT Trainer positions, as SMtroop168 said, do not appear in the Handbook for Eagle, but they DO appear on the current Eagle Scout Application form for Troop Webmaster and Troop LNT Trainer, but not for Teams nor Crews/Ships. There's a mistake somewhere. The Handbook (but not the Application), also for the first time and probably in error, lists Troop Bugler as valid for Eagle. I've written BSA to get a clarification for both of these.

I expect we'll see Bugler added to the next ESR Appl revision. (I seem to recall seeing that somewhere official, but I can't pin my memory down on it.)
