I've read parts of the Climbing standards, and the ones I had did not say that all gear must be owned by the council or the instructor, but I've now been told that is required.
I was looking into a high adventure trip this time last year called Ranger Camp held in Georgia. There, they required each person to bring their own helmet to be inspected; no problem.
I was just wondering if the same would be the case at Jamboree. You could bring your own and have it inspected or that they would all be provided.
Any ideas are great:)

AT the Jamboree evrything is provided. Staff has the option to bring and use their own equipment(helmet, harness, gloves) with the approval of the climbing director.
In "Climb on Safely" it states that all equipment must be acquired new or furnished by the instructor. If the troop purchases equipment it must be purchased new. One person would be responsible for caring for it for the Life of the equipment that would include keeping records, storing etc. The problem with troop owned equipment is accountability. It could never be loaned out to anyone and that is a lot of expense to use it once or twice a year. Please read "Climb On Safely"

Cool... thats what I wanted to hear
The only way I'll be going is if I'm on staff and one of my choices on my application is the rappelling tower. My other ones are in order: Photography (1), Webmaster (3), Daily Ceremonies (4), and security/parking (5). Of coure, that means the rappelling is 2
Hopefully, I'll get my application sent out this week.

Recently at camporees the popularity of portable climbing walls is going crazy...
These are owned/operated/insured by private companies which in turn rent them to the BSA. Sometimes they charge a nominal fee to climb...while others donate their services to the BSA.
They usually have an age requirement to climb.

I even looked in to one of those. Most are in the Ball Park of $25000.00 if on a trailer etc. But I having a friend draw up -plans for a portable wall that can be assembeled in a short time. He is an engineer and designs things like that.

The councils around here have been either renting them or they make a deal with the owner and charge the scouts to climb and thats how the wall gets paid for....there income depends on how many scouts want to climb...which is usually alot...
I think the big expense for them is the insurance.
I'm in South Central PA...you're in SW PA....You should contact our council and get a list of contacts for the climbing walls...
Our OA Lodge is having a Pow Wow this weekend and has an entertainment company bringing inflatable type games...looks like a ton of fun....here is a link to the company they are getting the stuff from...
