I like the winter High adventure base idea. It can open up a whole new area of scouting. I really like it as I can be there in under 3 hours I also like it that maybe my son can get a fulll time position. Teacher, Eagle Scout, White Water Guide, Climbing and Caving Guide. He and his wife to be can both do this she is h=gettibg a masters in Guidance and we have made her an outdoor lover like we are.

I loved Winter camping as a boy, but here in Texas kind of hard. Growing up in Northern Illinois, we used to head up to Wisconsin and camp in the snow. It was the best. And at the end of the day after having great food, to crawl into a cozy sleeping bag with tons of blankets.

I tried to get some additional information on the site selection, but it appears that there is nothing official released at this time.

Here is what I was able to find from multiple sources.

* Consideration is being given to using the WV site that will be the Eastern High Adventure site as the Jamboree site.

* No other sites are being considered at this time.

* BSA is making every effort to have the 2013 NSJ on their own property.

That's what I know now. I'll post more info as I'm able.

Wayne was it your council the BSA is getting some of the property for the HA Base? It is also my understanding that there is a 10000 acre site that borders the HA Site that a coal company owns and is willin g to donate and sell to the BSA. I have a friend that works for WVDOT and he hold be that two new exits off 19 are alaredy in the works to service the site. ?? I have a meeting in MOTOWN this next week and Gov. Joe may be there. If he shows up I will ask a few?.

Yes. The entire site is within the Buckskin Council area.

I have heard that there is some potentially available property adjacent to the current site. I had heard more like 20,000 acres.

Also, it seems likely that the HA site will also house an Eastern Training Center as well.

But since it is being handled by National, it is very hard to get information until it becomes official. It is my understanding that the Gov. has been involved and has dedicated some resources from a part of the State Economic Development Office to assist (at least in the proposal stages, I suspect they are still involved).

In addition to what I posted previously if seems that determining if there is the adequate infrastructure to support the number of people that attend a NJ is the primary consideration. One of the previous issues that we have heard is that the terrain is "rugged" and there are concerns for "old, fat" adults health. The terrain isn't likely to change, but we do have the new height/weight guidelines in the new medical form. :-)

Another issue that has been reported is whether the roads can handle the expected NJ traffic. The answer seems to be to look at how the same area handles Bridge Day each year. I think the numbers there are something like 80,000 visitors in one day.

I'll post more if I can find anything out.

(Bummer about the FB game last night though.)

Thanks. AT leaste the Pride Kicked ass. ANd bus #6 was hit by a truck after the game on the way to Atlanta. No injuries and the bus was able to continue. The Pride left Atlanta about a half hour ago to head home.
No doubt that WV can handle the traffic. Hell they shut down half of Rt 19 and still manage on Bridge day.

Here is some new information.

I have been told that there will be a public announcement made regarding the Fayetteville site on November 18th. Not sure of the location. Details are not available at this time.

There is also a dinner the preceeding evening that I am told will include the same information. If interested let me know and I'll see if I can get you more info. Oh, did I mention that that dinner will be $1000/plate?

Another West Virginia Friend from the Beckley Area told me this week that Boys Life was going to be at Bridge Day Next week. For those that have no idea what bridge day it is a day the NPS and WVDOT shut down one side of the New River Bridge and allow base jumping and rapelling form this man made wonder over the New River Gorge. BTW this is very near where the proposed Jamboree Site is, also the New Training Center and High Adventure Base
