If I lived closer, and couldn't afford or couldn't get into my council jamboree contingent, I would consider making other camping and food arrangements, then 'visiting' the jamboree every day.

Each council only has a given number of spots, and there are hundreds of others who would love to participate. For the youth, the slots go to those who are first to commit $3000+. For adults in our council, it is not a matter of money, qualifications, or experience. It is the 'good-old-boys' club. It doesn't matter how badly I want to go, they won't take me.

$3000...ouch. Must be flying first class.
From Cleveland the all-in fee is $1600 and includes 5 days of post-Jambo touring in VA and MD (all meals covered).
Billiken wrote:Sadly, we did recently have to remove some scouts from our 4-troop contingent that had not paid the fees due to date ($1000 of the $1600).
We've got 8 or so Scouts on the wait list with "checks in hand".
I know it sounds cold/cruel...but all four Jambo troops have started monthly meetings and in October will elect SPLs, ASPLs, PLs, etc.
wagionvigil wrote:Is it fair for a scout to Pay 1600-3000 to attend that jamboree and then have johnny scout show up and pay nothing and get to do the same activities? I think not. There is plenty to do at the Jamboree for Non participants AND One day is plenty. All the National Exhibits, The Conservation area which is fantastic and the Army Action Areas are great. Brown Sea Island is cool also.
For Billiken Sign up for Staff the next one in 2013 totally perspective and I can arrange for you to work at my tower( if I am still there).
