Now we get into the boys who have been slow at advancement and are still T21 with a 2007 or 2008 published book. It is hard to keep up with the changes in this respect. I can sit on a BOR and completely miss (yep, done it once) the fact that the boy has not completed the current requirements, but has fulfilled them based on his book. We have a small troop, what about the ones with 50+ Scouts?

Easy Solution -- Troopmaster software. It doesn't matter how old a boys book is if there is someone keeping track of their advancement work in the software. Are you trying to say that a boy who has a book printed in 2008 doesn't have to meet the requirements published in 2009 or 2010?

I realize that fire bans & LNT has decreased the need for camp fires but... The second class requirement has gone from start a fire with less than two matches (back in the day) to not starting one at all? :(

You will be able to become an eagle scout without ever starting a fire or cooking on one after 2010. There I stayed on topic.

Our scouts are far enough along that this doesn't apply to them. However, if it did i would probably only make them complete the activities in their scout book that they purchased. I don't think it is appropriate to add requirements that are not in their book. How do you sign off new requirments in an old book anyhow?

Similarly, I would not suggest that any scout have to go out and purchase a new book just because he didn't get to 1st class fast enough.

So if a scout wants to be webmaster or LNT trainer as a POR, are you going to make them buy a new book? :) :?

The requirements in the Book are not what counts. WHat counts is the BSA Requirement book that is published each Jamnuary or so with all the current requiremnts for rank and fo MB's. You would never ask a scout to buy one of these evey year that is up to the Troop leadership to be up on what the current requirements are then inform the scous as to what they are. If you are not doing this you should be.

That is an excellent idea! It certainly addresses kwildman's concerns about having to achieve rank requirements that are not in their books.

psst- would it be possible to finagle a copy of your stickers via e-mail? I'm guessing they're in a Word-friendly format.

I am writing myself a note to call Jim and ask jim to send it along when I get the chance. It might not happen right away, but I will get to it.
