Buddy System!!!

in our troop the younger boys are required to have buddies. as we get older, we can go without a buddy, at most places. if we go somewhere we havent been before, us older scouts take buddies, not because we have to, but because we want to be on the safe side.

My sons troop, says if you go out of camp you have to have a buddy. If a scouts needs to go to a merit badge class at summer camp, and he does not have a buddy, the SPL trys to find to 2 other scouts to walk with him, and then walk back to get him after the class. Many times the scouts are busy, working on merit badge requirements so 2 of us adults become his buddy and we are expected to be there to walk him back after the class. It is great way to lose weight! Usually my sons troop has over 60 scouts at camp, and at least 10 adults.

i think its a good idea, but the older scouts and I in my troop dont use it. Weve never found it necesary for older kids, but all the younger kids are recquired.

I think we have worn this topic out. Everyone has different opinions on how this should be run. I do think its much better to be on the safe side but others feel a different way. I dont know if we should add anymore to this topic as in the past we have all heated up. This is beating a dead horse now. Everyone gave in great opinions and had strong feelings about it but its over now. This topic is a great display of this wonderful site and how everyone can share their own views on things.
