Fun activities for incoming Webelos... Part 2

Yeah, I'm glad those things went away. No more secret organizations either thank goodness. And my biggest childhood fear was when my troop conducted a "belt line".

But that was long ago in a galaxy far away. I have to ask what a trash can turkey is???

Since Scouts and Venturing members are expected to teach a skill to others, perhaps outdoor skills could be worked into an entry level outing?

Outdoors skills are always a good thing to work on. Just remember to keep them to new scout level. Don't try to teach them to build towers if they don't even know knots for example.

Two "WEBELOS-friendly" outings we have done with a lot of success are:

1. Pioneering weekend. Make sure you have plenty of poles and plenty of ropes, then team WEBELOS up with your patrols. Teach the Weebs (and probably a lot of your Scouts) how to tie lashings in the morning, then spend the afternoon in a patrol thing-lashing competition. At dinner, have your troop's adults set up something like a foil-cooking bar where the Scouts and Weebs can make their own dinner.

2. Do a car-camp at an interesting location. We've used the Ape Caves south of Mt. St. Helens before the recent eruption activity, and Deception Pass State Park. Both of these locations combine fun day hikes with easy car-camping. There is sure to be some interesting place close to you.

My son's troop did a flour bomb and invited second year webelos to that. Flour bomb for those who don't know: take a tissue and put a blob of flour in the middle. Roll up the tissue and tape. You play it like paint ball, however, the flour washes out, it doesn't hurt and the kids have more fun.

Also, our troop is doing a klondike derby and inviting 2nd year webelos.
Last year they were invited to go on the Intrepid trip.

a trash can turkey is a turkey that you cook in a metal trsh can by putting hot charcoal on it and around the bottom of it. it is awesome

I'm sorry, I thought this post was about events that Weblos could actually be included in. While of tremendous value, the hazing posts are off the subject.

By request, and appropriately so, I make some administrative changes in this thread--specifically, by culling out the posts regarding hazing and initiations, particularly Snipe Hunts, and moving them over into a new, separate thread. (Yeah, it got a little hot. We're all human.)

Anyhow, in doing so, my mouse made a little boo-boo and zigged when he shoulda zagged... and the only way to preserve several of the remaining relevant posts was to lock the old thread and direct everybody over here to a continuation of the original. (Nothing personal, just a technically glitch.) Sorry.
