AFter a call to National about the new Course they are Suggesting a ONE WEEKND Course. WE will be deciding that locally next week. I as the Course Director I am recommending That. there are only so many weekends in a year and now wit the inclusion of youth in the course one weekend makes better sense. How may of you would be more likely to take Powder Horn if you only had to go one weekend?
I will try to add a survey But it may be separate from this.

I would be more apt to take the course if it was the original one week long course.

I do not like the idea of condensing things down so much.

Not sure how you would get all the stuff we did in powder horn to fit into one weekend. For six days they kept us hopping from station to station and we got hands on experience with all of the activities. I would hate to see it "streamlined" just for the sake of attendence.

Just think by the same logic you could do woodbadge in one weekend to get more people in the class. Maybe that is next.

Update on the course: the course finished up last Sunday after lunch. We had 47 Participants and a staff of 14. We had one crew of just youth
The consultants presented 24+ Different programs ,activities etc.
Check out our website http://www.NER4PH.org pictures will be posted over the weekend we hope. A full schedule is listed on this site.
Some thoughts from talking to participants etc
If we would have done the two weekend course we would not have any youth !!!!!!!!!
If we would have had the two weekend course at least 15 adults would not have taken the course.
We allowed participants to arrive and check in on Thursday evening between 7 and 11 this allowed us to actually start at 8:45 am.

One over the top thing we did was the caving trip. 26 took part in a shortened lower caving experience at Laurel Caverns the others did the upper public walk through tour then we all met in a room in the cave that we can shut down the lights and had a candle Light Scouts own service.

IMHO the one weekend course is the way to go especially if you want youth participation. Of course I am fully aware that there are some councils out there that would never want youth to take this advanced training.

About have of the adults were in Tan, not green, and definitely got their eyes opened.
This was an Area sponsored course hosted by the Laurel Highlands Council ( Greater Pittsburgh and Penns Woods).
