OK here is the survey I am asking for your imput

How can you make it one weekend and keep the same content? Obviously to cut 3 days, you are leaving something out.

Surprisingly not much. Only the Venturing Training and and all the Safe Swim, CLimb on , Safety Afloat, VYPT. ALl those little training were in the old course but participants must bring proof of completion with them now. There is no over night. No Nightly entertainment. These are three full days no free time.

Would those be called "prereqs"? If you don't have those done, can you get a partial?

My concern with the one weekend is that is would be too jammed and folks would get tired of sitting.

NO Partials LOL. There is also too much chance of people not returning weekend 2. Remember there is no ticket and I compare this as a High ADventure day camp for adults.

WV - i would recommend you break these answers out by respondents that have already taken powderhorn versus those thinking about it. I think you would see a difference in the answers.

I took our Council's course last March - 2 weekends with a weekend in between. Each weekend was based at a different Council Camp - best suited for what was being covered that weekend. No one didn't come back 2nd weekend - it was too much fun to miss! Both weekends were packed full of activities - could not have covered it as well in only 1.

Truth in advertising. I have taken Powder Horn & am going to be a troop guide for our council's spring course. I voted for two weekends.

Troop guide is a wood badge position. Also the new Powder Horn course is somewhat different then the old course. 14 years olds can take the new course.

You are correct. The correct term is crew guide. Regardless of the name the function is more or less the same. I am not sure if the course is using the old or new syllabus. It is two weekends though. It is open to youth over 14. But since it is during the school year, we might not have many youth.

I am the course director for our council's Powder Horn in 2011. After going through 2 PH I can not see how you can really slam all of the information and activities into 1 weekend with so much of it being hands on. I am really glad we are having 2 weekends.

I haven't taken Powder Horn, but I've taken WB, OLS, BALOO, OWL, Wilderness First aid and numerous other courses.

I had OLS incomplete for two years because I missed weekend 1 which was scheduled after weekend 2 (winter area in fall and weekend 2 was more outdoors so they did it first).

I've seen similar for WB. They make the 1st weekend, but then a life event. The person I know has not made it back. It's hard to justify re-paying 100%, redoing the 1st part, wasting a weekend to do that 1st part to just get the last half of the training. Especially, when the 2nd half was largely project related. I understand their position... sometimes it's easier to ignore it.

As much as I love camping, I'd rather save my time for my pack and troop.

I love the pre-req idea. Then I wouldn't need to stuff I already have current in training. And if it's already on-line, I'd hate to take it in-person unless it was drastically better. I've taken too many in-person training sessions that are not as good as the on-line courses.

Obviously, I voted for one weekend. Even if you need to make it longer three or four days.
