OK. I know I am going to upset some people here. I am a Vigil Honor member and I am a certified Section has-been (section secretary)and Lodge Has-been (Chief and Vice Chief). I am not paying my dues to my Council's Lodge. Too much bad blood there. I don't particularly care for how the OA does business in my Council. Maybe it is because the Lodge Advisor runs the show. It is his way or the highway and the kids either do it or he does it his way. Well, I will choose the highway as long as he is in that position. Way too much adult involvement as far as the operations of the OA Lodge.
FYI: I do not discourage the boys in my Troop from participating in the OA. I tell them that they have to make a choice of what they would like to do as OA members. I do not bash the local OA Lodge or give them my opinion. I let my Scouts' form their own. Some have taken completed their Brotherhood and that is pretty much it. My Troop would probably be considered OA unfriendly by our local Lodge, but that is completely bogus. My Troop actually does what we are supposed to do (I have a BOY LED TROOP!) and the boys choose to do the Troop Activities and not the OA. If my Scouts ever decided to take over the Local OA Lodge, watch out! They are a blast to see in operation! Hmmmmmm.......Maybe that should be my evil plan!
