Preparedness BSA
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has
partnered with the Boy Scouts of America to increase the level
of citizen preparedness across the country. DHS has asked the
Boy Scouts of America to build upon the foundation of the
Ready campaign and to help citizens across the country prepare
for emergencies of all kinds
Boy Scout and Varsity Scout Requirements:
1. Participate in creating an emergency plan for your home and
for your troop or team's Scouting activities. Be sure you know
the details of both emergency plans.
2. Earn the First Aid or the Emergency Preparedness merit
badge.
3. With your troop or team, including its adult leaders,
participate in emergency preparedness training conducted by
community emergency preparedness agencies.
Our troop has had 6 scouts earn this award...I was just
curious how many other scouts are earning them? I haven't seen
many scouts wearing the award.

Thanks for the info on this. I wasn't even aware of this
award!
Since any scout working towards Eagle will have all the
requirements covered except the last one, this seems like it
wouldn't be too much more to do. Seems like another great
opportunity for learning and sounds like it could make for a
couple of nice meetings too.

Check out my council's website...here is a link:
http://www.mason-dixon-bsa.org/eprepbsa.html
There are requirements for various levels of scouting
including leaders.
The award is a nice pin approx. 1" in diameter that you wear
centered on the left pocket flap.

They are encouraging all the Council Troops going to the 2005
Jamboree to do this before they leave.

The whole award I think will help enhance awareness of the BSA
and remind the community that the BSA is here to do more than
just go camping!
