Where do I start?..

Postby ashjpd » Sun Aug 29, 2004 11:59 am

Hey,
I have been a scout a long time, but have never really gotten into it. When my scout troop was passing off merit badges, I wasn't active in my church, so I didn't take part in any of the activities. Now all that has changed, and I really want to work to getting my eagle. I passed my emergency preparedness and enviromental science back at a camp 3 years ago.. Also, my scout troop now is focused more on things to do for the church, so we are not working on merit badges anymore, so I am on my own, unless I get something started.. so I am wondering a few things:
1. Can I still count those badges I got towards getting my eagle?

2. Is there a time limit to how much time it takes to get my eagle? i.e. I have to get all the badges within 2 years, or something of that sort.

3.Should I get some equipment, like the scout book, uniform, etc. as I get started?..

4.How should I go about getting farther in the ranks. As I am the lowest there is, or not at any rank.

5. Is there somewhere I can see a list of all the required merit badges that I need?..

6.If so, are there ways I can pass some/all of them off on the internet?..

7.Is there anything else I need to be aware of for getting started?.. As I don't know much about scouts, and really want to get involved and learn as much as I can.

Thanks for anyone who answers my questions, I think these will help out future viewers also. I probably could set up something to meet with fellow scouts in my area to work on stuff together, because there are many who are as behind as I am, but aren't doing anything about it. Thanks for this site, I am gonna use it alot, and I hope to get down and dirty in this scout stuff.

Thanks,

Welcome to Scouting :)

Absolutely!

There is no time limit in Scouting except the age of 18. As long as everything is done before then, you can earn your Eagle.

Be Prepared  I suggest starting with two books, the Boy Scout Handbook and Boy Scout Requirements. Purchase other support items, such as uniforms and camping equipment, as you need them.

Simply do the work. All the requirements are in the books noted above and on MeritBadge.com. You will also find merit badge worksheets on MeritBadge.com which could be very helpful under the circumstances.

MeritBadge.com

ashjpd wrote:6.If so, are there ways I can pass some/all of them off on the internet?..

Not really but the worksheets will help.

Two important areas that will help you on MeritBadge.com are the BSA Program Info section and the General Requirements link under Advancement.
