District Award of Merit

Just curious, sinde this Award came up again. Do other Districts folow (kinda sorta) the one Award for every 25 Units thing??

Our district didn't hand one out last year. So that makes it an even greater honor. The funny thing is that I don't really see what I do as anything special. Just what needs to be taken care of.

They're doing it exactly correct. Here's the official policy, taken from "Advancement Committee Policies and Procedures"

The award is made annually on the basis of one award for each 25 units, or fraction thereof, registered on December 31. The district need not present all of the awards to which it is entitled each year.

So Districts with anywhere from 101 to 125 units qualify for 5 awards.

Similarly, here is the procedure for the Silver Beaver:

• Each chartered local council shall be entitled to one nomination. Councils having more than 60 traditional units shall be entitled to further nominations on the basis of one for each additional 60 traditional units or fraction thereof in their territory, as of December 31 preceding the nomination, according to the records of the national office.
• Councils not using their full allotment in any year may accumulate the unused portion for use in any subsequent year.

Question: Would that be per units for the district as a whole or per units in each classification?

The Scenario -- For instance, a district has 19 troops, 26 packs, and 3 crews for a combined total of 48 units.

Example #1 -- If you base it on combined units, the district would be able to present two awards.

Example #2 -- If you base it on the numbers of each type of unit, troop leaders would be eligible for one award, pack leaders would be eligible for two awards, and crew leaders would be eligible for one award for a total of four awards.

My guess is that award numbers are based on the first way of looking at it but I was just curious.

Yeah, when they talked about the Award here recently...that's when it came up about the District "splitting" again. We're over a hundred Units, so here we go again, haha.
