Good luck, FF. Heh, if I hadn't wasted all that time not
coming for about three years, I may already have Eagle. I'll
be going for life in August, though. That's good.

Eagle should not be a huge deal since there are plenty of
harder awards in Scouts, so that is what I do not understand
how come awards like the Venturing Silver, Gold and Ranger are
not as well known or as prestegous as the Eagle rank. They are
in fact harder to earn then Eagle. By the way yes, I do have
my eagle. I completely renovated Senior Estates park and
identified all of the trees making it into an arboretum.

Because of what Eagle means and that you have to stick with it
for some what seems countless years and hard dedication.

I guess I timed it perfect, then. The news is in: I'm the new
ASPL for our troop (with a Life BoR next month) and an
auto-SPL in the next election. Great timing, to be SPL when I
go for Eagle.

Congradulations that is a great honor! SPL helped me greatly
to mature. Some scouts in my troop make eagle without even
becomming an aspl and I find that somewhat depressing...cause
they missed out on a big experience.

The Venturing awards are newer and there are not many
Venturing members when compared to Boy Scouts. As for which is
harder? I still think the Eage Award is the hardest to earn
overall, and think that most Eagle Scouts will agree. I don't
think that you'll ever see the Venturing Ranger Award earn the
respect that the Rank of Eagle Scout does?

The Eagle Scout Award has been around for 100 years in the US
in 2005.

When someone thinks of a boy scout they automatically think of
the Eagle scout rank.
The Bronze award and Ranger award have not been around nearly
as long, and , personally, I have never seen one of these
awards earned by anyone in my area.
I think that is why not very many people have heard of them,
that needs to change.

The Main reason you have seen very few awarded is
1. They are difficult to attain and
2. Most councils are not pushing Venturing Why you may ask?
because it is co ed. I have been told Point blank from people
from councils that are in the NER that they will never push
Venturing for that Fact. ALso in my part time job I come in
contact with units from Central and Southeren Region and I am
getting the same feed back. Even with all of te negativity
Venturing is the ONLY PART of the BSA showing Positive Growth.

Our council has been pushing the Venture program and it seems
to have more than enough interest to stick around.

I don't think many people have earned the Venturing awards
yet...

Not sure about the Venturing awards but I agree that most folks don't put an emphasis on advancement with in that program. Not sure why though. Any one locally I've spoken to does not utilize this but rather they have the Venture program more just to allow the advanced opportunites for older scouts. Our troop has a Venture program but only has scouts from our troop and they do more high adventure outings. The scouts main focus is still Boy Scouting and the Venture is within the troop.

As for the Palms, I think most scouts don't have enough time after ranking Eagle to do the palms. Also I know most scouts in our troop that do have the time, don't bother cause they think of the Eagle as high enough. I would disagree that they are hard to achieve though. Actually I think they're real easy to earn so long as one has the time. My oldest son could have just received another Palm and told me not to re-register him since he'll be turning 18 and is leaving for college. When I reminded him that he already has the badges he said "yeah and I already have 1 Palm and my Eagle, I'm done" So be it he is! I've had other scouts say the same thing and they don't even want to earn more badges. They usually still participate in the troop so I don't get it, but we figure it's up to them?
