Not around here either and our troop sometimes goes to a camp out of council and our council accepts everything. In fact we have scouts from two different counties and council areas in our troop.

wagionvigil, you can make a call if it will help. we are in the Lincoln Heritage council Louisville Kentucky, in the Mohawk Distict. Troop 376. I proably get on the dirty sick list but wrong is wrong a a Scout is being made to redo a requirement again.

If the MBC must be from my own council then a lot of badges that the boys have earned may not be valid even though the MBC was registered and approved by another council.

Yeah, I can understand the mis-understanding in my statement, as written. Let me tweak it just a tad. Boy Scout Rank and MB advancement requirements are the same, nationwide. No, scratch that--world-wide. As long as the former MBC was on his District- or Council-approved MBC roster for that MB, summer camp, whatever... as long as it was BSA-sanctioned, IAW the Advancment Policies and Guidelines, then whatever any "approved" MBC signed off, partial or completed, is good anywhere, anytime... that is, until the Scout turns 18, which, at such time, those little Partials turn into little pumpkins. Regardless of when or where, if it was kosher back then or over there, then how could it possibly not be so in the here and now?

If a Scout brings me written documentation from a known or verifiable adult that the Scout did something that met some requirement, or part thereof, whether it's from a teacher or another MBC (even from another council), I will take that information as credible evidence, and I have never yet failed to trust a Scout in doing so. Part of being a MBC, is being an adult role model and, to me, that includes getting to know the Scouts well enough to trust them, as such.

To put it bluntly: Troop, District, Council, Camp "borders" are NOT relevant to a Scout's personal Advancement record. That's the beauty of Scouting! A Scout is free to travel where ever HE so chooses to participate in Scouting. And THE PRESENT Scoutmaster is ALWAYS the key. Any gaining SM is obligated to accept the decisions that were passed through a previous one.

Man, am I soap-boxin' this one, or what?! I apologize, y'all.

Yeah you are a tad - but it's allowed. Part of the "beauty" of it - lol. This one is enough to make your blood boil.

You can work with a counselor from out of council, state, etc. My son is working on the Golf merit badge with his grandfather who is a counselor in another state. (Granted, it is going quite slow as we don't get down there as often as we would like and Grandpa is a real stickler on him doing everything exactly as written :) )
