Often the rules are not enforced. When I was at the 2001 Jamboree, the visitors would be allowed to take part in activities, usually if there were spots not being taken by participants.

All activity directors at the National Jamboree have that authority if they need to. Our phones they issued had the MP's on speed dial

I have no problem with your solution. It's 100% okay with me. Our son had to jump through many hoops ... and follow many many rules ... over 18 months ... at a cost of $2300 ... plus extra uniforms ... plus gear ... plus much more. I know we all want to be the good guy, but it does irks me. I'm glad to hear of the Summit's plans to split the areas and address the issue.

What is with the stupid rule that adults can't trade patches with youth? If it was to prevent adults from taking advantage of youth and making unfair trades (as was the rumored reason), it didn't work. The youth were the ones who I saw insisting on unfair trades.

I was at the 1989 Jamboree and still have my Jamboree Scout Guide from that Jamboree. The patch trading policy was clearly in place and printed in the guide then and has not changed since.

My two cents worth, I am not liking the idea of having a visitors only area. I liked the idea of being able to walk around and see what was going on. In 1985, I was able to walk around and see what was going on. That made me want to go in 1989, 1993, and 2010. Except I was an "adult" in 1993 and 2010. I really enjoyed walking around and seeing what everyone was doing and just talking with people from different areas.
